Rida is the new ride-sharing service that hopes to give Uber and Bolt (Taxify) a run for their money.
Rida helps passengers and drivers negotiate a price acceptable to both the driver and the rider. It suggests a price based on the location, route, and traffic, but it is left to the driver and rider to negotiate a price both find reasonable, and because the drivers pay no commission at all (for this launch period), this brings about lower prices!
Drivers can set their price and see all nearby orders and passengers are able to see all available drivers and their different offers and choose what works for them.
Drivers and riders can log in to the app using Facebook or their numbers.
How does Rida Work?
When using the app drivers are to complete a chat-based registration which requires submission of personal details, these could be transferred from Facebook, the type, model, colour, and license plate of the vehicle, a copy of the driver’s license and insurance certificate.
Drivers that are verified (given all necessary information in the registration process) are given access to the full list of orders currently available in the city (updated in real-time). The driver can then select any suitable order and either accept the order price or offer a new one. If the new price is confirmed by the passenger, then the driver goes to pick them up.
During the beta period, the use of the Rida service is completely free for drivers. In this way, the driver receives his/her money “here and now” as the ride is paid by the passenger directly to the driver (in cash or by bank transfer).

Rida Debuts in Nigeria to Offer an Alternative in the Ride-Hailing Market
One of Rida’s founders a Nigerian called Vanic Isibor Minas, said about the app that its mission is to democratize the ride hailing industry in Abuja by giving passengers and drivers an alternative that goes in line with the culture of haggling and bartering fair price.
He says that, “The actual stakeholders on any ride-hailing market are the drivers and the passengers. Our goal is to give them a tool to negotiate seamlessly and move around the city faster at more affordable prices.”
The Rida app was developed by former employees of Uber from Russia and Armenia who, according to Vanic Minas, “saw a niche for a third force in ride-hailing. One that is not built on price wars but rather fair and sustainable pricing based on actual perceptions of the market from passengers and drivers. We do not dictate the price, the market does, as it should.”
Will Rida’s approach balance the relationship between the passengers and drivers to ensure a better passenger experience? Or will you stay loyal to the alternatives you know already?
You can get the app from the Play Store here and the Apple Store here.
